Minutes of commission meetings include exhibits used, reports from field representatives and statistical tabulations. Usually includes a monthly summary of funds, reports on payroll, anaysis of cases served, analysis of change in case load, allocations for administrative costs. Also includes discussion of grievances from counties for various concerns such as not receiving an allocation. They also heard from individuals or businesses who had grievances against the commission for some problem arising from dealing with the commission or the recipients of relief. Issues with vendors supplying food, clothing etc. Statistical reports of all aspects of relief recipients and the use of funds. Many of the reports and statistical data do not appear in the published annual and interim reports of the commission. Also includes audit reports for Cook County's Division of Public Assistance, 1943-1952, audit reports for the commission, 1945-1948 and reports of management consultants, 1950-1951, 1961-1963.

Established in 1932 to provide relief to the many people throughout Illinois suffering from effects of the depression. In 1941 was changed to the Illinois Public Aid Commission. The state allocated funds for relief and was later assisted by the federal government. The commission originally consisted of seven men who chose agencies to assist with the relief effort under strict control of the commission.
